Law For Non-Profits
The Law Students
An integral part of ALO’s operations are the law students who volunteer two to five hours of their time each week as clinic coordinators.
As many as five law students from UBC and the University of Victoria are trained each academic year to work with ALO. Through this work they obtain practical experience in communicating with clients and lawyers, reviewing intake forms, initiating conflicts check, attending workshops, and researching and writing legal materials. The students are able to sit in on summary advice clinics and ask lawyers questions about the issues discussed as each clinic.
Our Volunteers
Our LFNP 2019 law students are Jylelle Carpenter-Boesch and Kristin Weedmark from UBC Allard Law.
Legal Self-Assessment and Learning Tool Project
UBC Allard students Blair Feltmate, Julia Sande, and Joey Levesque worked in the Summer of 2019 to support the creation of the legal content for the LSALTS project. Their diligence and fine work is appreciated. With thanks to Professor Carol Liao for making that possible.
Societies Act Transition Law Students
UBC Allard students Sophia Ma and AJ Maugher (now with Lawson, Lundell), and Brent Woodside of TKS Lawyers, Campbell River were Ask a Law Student volunteers during our Societies Act Transition project.
